Just like me, blacktips love the warm tropical waters of Florida! Blacktips also like to hang out in packs. They rely on each other to hunt, thrive, and socialize. They are also curious little creatures and will come check you out if you are in their territory. But fear not, they are also shy and will swim away. They prefer small fish over people! These small tasty fish can sometimes be found hiding under a clump of sargassum weed, a nutrient rich algae that forms in the Sargasso Sea(a section of the Atlantic Ocean)! This brown seaweed carries what looks like “berries”. These are actually gas-filled structures which are filled mostly with oxygen. They add buoyancy to the plant structure allowing it to float and once it sinks it provides Carbon to creatures of the deep! This seaweed brings carries life but too much of it can carry death… both of these species (the shark and the seaweed) deserve to be researched. The more I read about them, the more fascinated I become!
